After qualifying in dentistry from Liverpool University in 1990 and obtaining FDSRCS (England), Parkash studied medicine in St Andrews and Manchester Universities, obtaining a degree with honours in 1997. He did basic surgical training in Manchester and after passing FRCS, he moved to the South Coast for his higher surgical training in 2000. He trained in Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Salisbury, Poole, Bournemouth and Dorchester after which he did a cancer fellowship in Beijing before being appointed a consultant in Poole Hospital in 2005.
Mr Parkash Ramchandani is an oral and maxillofacial / head and neck surgeon specialising in resection and reconstruction of head and neck cancer; facial skin cancer; facial deformity; TMJ (jaw joint) disease including minimally invasive arthrocentesis and arthroscopy as well as open operations on the jaw joint including TMJ arthroplasty and TMJ replacement; maxillofacial trauma; salivary gland disease; orofacial pain; facial cosmetic surgery; and dentoalveolar surgery including wisdom teeth, difficult extractions and dental and craniofacial implants. He is also interested in oral medicine which includes conditions such as mouth infections, mouth ulcers and red and white patches and blistering diseases of the lining of the mouth.
Mr Ramchandani is the clinical lead for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at University Hospitals Dorset and the former lead for clinical governance in OMFS.
He is passionate about teaching and training and is the Training Programme Director for higher surgical trainees in OMFS in Wessex, as well as being an educational supervisor for Dental Core Trainees in UHD. He is a visiting senior lecturer at Bournemouth University where he teaches Physicians Assistants and is also an Associate Professor at St George’s Hospital Medical School in Grenada in the West Indies. As a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in OMFS, he is involved in shaping the curriculum for surgical training. Having been an examiner for the Intercollegiate FRCS (OMFS) and the Irish FFD (OSOM) examinations since 2012, he was recently appointed Chairman of the court of examiners for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in OMFS. He was previously a trainer for the Advanced Trauma and Life-support Course, which is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons.
