Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy plays a vital role in helping individuals recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, and improve physical function. Through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and tailored treatment plans, physiotherapy can reduce pain, restore mobility, and prevent further injury. It benefits people of all ages, whether recovering from surgery, managing musculoskeletal conditions, or simply aiming to improve strength and flexibility. With a focus on long-term well-being, physiotherapy empowers patients to regain independence and improve their quality of life.
The Private Health UHD physiotherapy service currently specialises in recovery and rehabilitation post orthopaedic surgery. This includes advice and exercises immediately post surgery on the ward, as well as post op physiotherapy to return back to normal activities and sport. This includes total hip replacement, total knee replacement, total ankle replacement, ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic shoulder surgeries, and many more.
Insured and self-paying patients will have physiotherapy included with orthopaedic surgery packages. It can include up to 6 months of post-op physiotherapy. Self-paying patients can pay for an additional bundle of hydrotherapy. The service also has access to a fully-equipped gym.
The physiotherapy team also excel at returning patients to activities and sport. For any joint or bone injury or pain, please contact the Private Health UHD to organise an assessment on our private patient unit at Bournemouth Hospital.Contact on 0300 019 4992 or privatehealth@uhd.nhs.uk
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is the therapeutic use of water in various forms and temperatures which offers a wide range of health benefits. It can help reduce pain, improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, and promote relaxation. For individuals with conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, sports injuries, or mobility challenges, hydrotherapy can support recovery and enhance overall well-being. It can also be a useful rehabilitation tool following an acute injury or surgery to supplement land based therapy. Hydrotherapy is a gentle yet effective treatment that harnesses the natural properties of water to support physical and mental healing.
Private Health UHD offer one to one hydrotherapy sessions with an experienced physiotherapist at Poole General Hospital. This is a purpose built pool which is kept at 32-35°C.
There is step access and hoist access to the pool.

Post hip surgery classes
We currently run a post hip surgery exercise class at Christchurch Hospital on a Tuesday afternoon. This is for people post hip replacement or hip fracture. Patients must be at least 3 weeks after their operation, but can attend for months after the operation. It costs £7 per session, and patients can attend as few or as many as they like. The class lasts between 50 and 60 minutes. Patients can attend if they need crutches or a stick to mobilise.
The class is supervised by a registered physiotherapist. There will be various options for progressing exercises, and asking general questions about recovery. The class will be an opportunity to meet other people who are also recovering from hip surgery. Lots of people find exercising in a group beneficial for motivation, connecting with other people and well-being.
