Our respiratory outpatient services can be referred to as Thoracic Medicine. We offer expert care for patients with a long term breathing and lung conditions, all within a convenient, clinic-based setting. We provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis for issues such as:
- Asthma
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Interstitial lung disease
- Lung cancer
- Bronchiectasis
- Tuberculosis
- Sleep-related breathing disorders
- Pleural disorders
- Asbestos related lung disease
The following diagnostic services are offered which help to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning:
- Xrays or other imaging
- Bronchoscopy, although these are offered through our endoscopy department
- Spirometry and reversibility testing
- Assessment of lung volumes
- Flow Volume Loop
- Transfer Factor
- Overnight oximetry
- Histamine challenge
- Exercise induced asthma challenge
- Sleep studies
- Respiratory muscle strength assessment
In addition to diagnosis, we offer ongoing management and support tailored to each patient’s needs. This include specialist consultations, medication reviews and education on self-care and lifestyle strategies. Our team works closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care that helps individuals manage their condition and improve their quality of life.
The Unit also carries out BCG (Mantoux) tests and BCG vaccinations at the TB Clinic
